Project Summary
Mahekeni Area, Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal
The Dr Musa Manzi Foundation has partnered with various community leaders in Ndwedwe district, to address water shortages currently faced by the community. The Mahekeni, Mona and Msunduze areas, in particular, are some of the most affected rural villages in the district, with families unable to access healthy and quality water.
The Dr Musa Manzi Foundation, in partnership with the School of Geosciences at Wits University and local government, have already conducted geoscience research studies on these areas to search for groundwater potential and possible borehole sites that will supply water to these communities for many years to come. This research will involve analysis of water samples to identify potential contaminants in the water currently making it undrinkable.
We are currently seeking a collaborative partnership with the local government, municipalities, universities, schools and other sectors. Collaboration with local schools is particularly important, as we aim to train learners to interact with academics and university students on community-aligned research projects, giving them an opportunity for real-time practical industry mentorship.
